In early 1974 I was a new believer in Jesus Christ and a senior in high school growing up in central North Carolina. I was blessed to have been introduced to a Christian organization called the New Directions. The New Directions was an inter-racial, inter-denominational Christian music ministry with a focus on evangelism and discipleship. Led by Rev. J. L. Williams (https://jlwilliams.org) and his wife Patt, dozens of high school and college young people from multiple counties committed their weekends to study of the Bible, to prayer, to hours of music rehearsals and to performances in churches, malls, prisons, high schools, etc. As one of the songs we performed said, we were “taking it to the streets”!
Rev. Williams required that each member of the team commit to memory 100 verses of scripture as a way of undergirding our spiritual growth. These verses became a source of great strength and wisdom in the course of my life. I wanted to share that list of scriptures along with a few others that have meant a great deal to me. I will be sharing seven of these scriptures each week for the next few weeks and will have a download version of all available at the end of that time. I hope you will join me in committing these verses to memory!
Blessings
